Shalom Dr. HaLevi, My wife is pregnant. Should I not be giving her acupressure treatments at all (based on your book, Chopstick Acupuncture)? Or is it OK to use acupressure as long as I do not use sp-6 or p-6 (the only points in your book which you say not to use for pregnancy)? Thank you in advance for your advice! And also thank you for your wonderful book! |

Acupuncture is a very safe modality during pregnancy, the chopstick technique even more so. If you can elaborate a little about what you need to treat her for, I can be more specific in my answer. Thank you for your kind words. |

I'm sorry -- I meant sp-6 and li-4 as the ones the book said I shouldn't use during pregnancy. She has had morning sickness, a cough, and extreme fatigue. She often wears "sea-bands," which put pressure on li-6, which helps with the nausea. I have been doing the points recommended in your book for coughs. But would you recommend any certain points for her fatigue and tiredness? Thank you! |

Using the chopsticks for nausea, i.e., points: P-6/ Ren-12 and also St-36, is not considered deangerous for pregnancy. The points on the upper back for cough + L-7 alone, if done several times daily, may bring about a cure, if the cough is not related to persistant allergy or a severe condition. Fatigue and tiredness are common complaints of pregnancy. You may treat points such as: St-36/ K-3/ B-13/ B-20 for this purpose. Hope this helps.

It is difficult to induce an abortion without needles and strong stimulation to a pregnant woman unless she is in a weakened condition. Using gentle massage, rubbing oil into the abdomen (not peanut oil) will always produce beneficial effects and help to bond mother/father child. With massage you are free to explore, and to learn, without any harm eventuating. To find "ouch points" and gently rub the "ouch points away" is a completely fail-safe way of approach. Believe me when I say - it is very difficult for an unskilled practitioner, not using needles to produce an abortion - if it happens then you can safely assume that it was not safe for the woman to have been pregnant in the first place. Having said that prenatal nausea/vomiting should be taken seriously and every effort made to make the woman comfortable because it can be very debilitating. A good natural therapist, a good gynecologist, supportive friends, careful diet. With the permission of the moderator I will suggest some foods. Mint, Ginger in moderation, dictated by taste, papaya if available, pear, peach, kiwifruit, Cinnamon, Tarragon, tumeric, raspberry leaf are some suggestions that may not have been thought off in such circumstances. As also Barley, Buckwheat, Dates, Slippery Elm. Edgar Cacey made a good suggestion of making a gruel of dates and figs as highly nourishing and able to stave off fatigue. Best wishes, and keep in touch. Jan. |
