Hi,
How do you settle the CH. MED. knowledge about emotions with what we know today about the brain's functions.
I mean do you really think that the shen resides in the hart and that the Gall Blader is responsible for curage for example ?
Secondly, I would like to ask about your experience with accupuncture and healing bad emotions. Is it an effective tool. ?

Chinese medicine speaks about the metaphysical aspect of emotions, the spirit Shen and its energetical manifestations. Western medicine is concerned with chemistry, anatomy and neurology. You can not find a common denominator for these two approaches. We usually explain to bewildered patients that if the gallbladder reflects a lack of resolution or perseverance in pathology, it may be connected with the brain area/function that responds to the wood alement. This is if they can not grasp the metaphysical concepts of energy and its physical manifestations.
In clinical practice however, the anatomical/Western understanding (or interpretation) of the mental problem is of no consequence. The heart as the "residence" of the Shen-spirit will be treated, or other organs/meridians according to the classical concepts of Ch.med. I can assure you that acupuncture therapy for depression and/or anxiety bears significantly better results than modern psychiatry - and much much faster. |

I thought that being also a western MD you will tend to bring the two theories into a common denominator.
I think that eventually there is going to be a new third theory that will understand Ch. med in western med words.

In any case Dr Halevi, I thought about your answer and I like the idea that we have zones in our brain (which are probably not discovered yet) that are related to the 5 elements.
That way the liver meridian effects the liver zone, the metal meridian effects the metal area and so on.
