Dear Dr Halevi, I know a 45 years old women suffering from middle age symptoms. I think that this is HT yin def. syndrom. She is restless and looks very "dry". Leaving aside Acupuncture and herbs, What self healing measures would you recommend her. Thanks in advance |

In that age Ron, the most prevalent syndrome is Yin deficiency associated with kidney Qi deterioration. It is recommended to have herbal supplements of Yin, such as Da Bu Yin Wan or He Che Da Zao Wan, but this should be done under the guidance of a qualified herbalist. Acupuncture can usually resolve severe cases of hotflashes, night sweating, dry vagina and skin and other menopausal symptoms. Her diet should also consist of Yin replenishing foods and less spicy food, alcoholic beverages and - especially coffee. There are plenty of resources over the internet listing Yin or Yang foods, also on my homepage under Diet in the section of articles in the Hebrew language. |

Thank you. What is your view regarding spicy food. Is that bad in general or only in this specific case ? |

Spicy food is OK unless you have an excess heat or Yang Qi condition. It is even recommended in Yang deficient conditions. |
