Is this an officially recognised treatment modality? Can anyone please point me in the direction of an authoritative text on the subject? |

There are numerous acupuncture approaches which are based on esoteric practices, shamanic relics and other modalities based on divination rather than logic and clinical experience. So, if your interest is biased on culture or anthropology, you have a fascinating field of research here. If, on the other hand, you aim at getting excellent clinical results with your patients, my suggestion is to stick with TCM. There is enough material to study there. |

Quite so; there is a passing reference to it in one of my course notes, which seemed to imply it was more than just an historical footnote, so I was merely curious as to how a reliable diagnosis could be achieved by such methods and whether anyone actually knew of anybody who incorporates this into their practice. |

Yes you can but be careful of cross infection and use disposable needles. It is also good to use a dietary modality. |
