Dampnes, as much as every other diagnostic term in Chinese medicine, is an energetic phenomenon. It implies a stagnancy condition by which Qi does not move freely due to either invasion of dampness, or an accumulation of internal dampness. Conditions such as the coughing up of sputum, hoarse voics, sinusitis and rhinitis, vaginal discharge, diarrhrhea - all are various manifestations of a damp condition. Also many types of arthritis by which various joints feel painful, puffy or swollen, a generalized heaviness and tiredness, indicate a damp condition. Dampness may be of exogenous origin, such as getting cold, the flu, sinusitis etc., or of internal origin. The latter is cause either by pregnancy or weakness of the digestive system which manufactures the dampness. Whenever the dampness condition gets excessive and accumulates, this energetic condition may deteriorate to excessive phlegm that may give rise to asthma, other lung diseases, cysts, tumors, emphysema and many more disorders and diseases. Wind Dampness is a condition by which the dampness is moving in the body. Mostly, a rheumatic condition of a shifting pain and/or swelling of various joints, etc. |
