Milk which is fresh from the goat or cow and that is not industrialized is considered a tonifying and nutritious food. It contains plenty of nutritious Qi and is very adequate for infants or as a rehabilitating food after prolonged illness, child bearing etc. Yet, very nutritious foods such as milk, honey, eggs etc., must not be consumed in excess. If they are, they usually achieve the oposite goal and place a heavy burden on our system. Plenty of milk, or milk products, tend to cause a excessive dampness or phlegm, thereby inducing allergies, stomach problems, infections, skin problems and more. Those who have a weak or malfunctioning digestive system should eliminate milk products from their diet. Those who suffer from allergies, weak kidneys, breathing system disorders and the like need also to refrain from milk.
There is another thing that must be considered. Industrialized milk products usually contain substantial traces of steroids and antibiotics that are given on a routine basis to the milk producing animals in modern countries. These elements may severly harm allergic or otherwise weak and sensitive people. These elements adversely affect the Qi quality of the milk product as much as sterilization and pasteurization, or refrigeration...
As for the Calcium content of milk, this can easily be substituted by the more readily digested soy products, tehina, sardines/tuan, broccoli and more.
