Dear Sir My father has been diagnosed with Non Small cell lung cancer (Possibly Squmous Cell) Stage IIIB and is currently undergoing chemotherapy. He has also been diagnosed for 'Idiopathic Pulmonary Fibrosis' for which he has been put on "Prednisone" which he has been taking for last 15 days now. Allopathic medicine is not giving us much hope on treatment of any of above diseases especially for pulmonary Fibrosis where the doctors have indicated that they can not do much and give him a life span of 2 years. I wish to find out if there is treatment for any of the above in Accupuncture. I would be very thankful if you can guide me some resource on internet or otherwise on above. sincerely yours MP |

Acupuncture as well as Chinese herbs may be given in such cases both as an adjuvant therapy to chemo + radiation, or by itself as the main treatment modality. In many instances, Ch. med is quite capable of dealing with cancer conditions by itself, sometimes curing them, sometimes arresting their development and contributing to the patient's life span and quality. When Ch. med is used only as a supplement to modern medicine, it can counteract chemo or radiation therapy's side effects and contributing to the npatient's well being and chances for recovery. In any event, such cases call for great expertise and you need to look for a specialist that has plenty of experience in Ch.med. Good luck to you and your father. |

Thanks for your response Can you please advise where we can find an expert in India. We know a lady who claims to be an accupunture expert with PH D from some srilankan university but we are sure she has never handled any case like my father. Moreoever, she doesnt practice chinese medicine but only treats through Accupunture. Do you advise us to go forward just with Accupunture. Is there any possibility of any harm to the patient. I am sorry Mayank but I have no idea how you can find an expert in India. If you can find an expert in Ayurvedic herbal medicine, I suppose this could be a good start. I suppose such an expert could help you locate also an acupuncturist. |

Do you have any experience in treating childhood leukaemia with Chinese Medicine? If so, would appreciate any light you could throw on the matter in terms of possible aetiologies, diagnosis, treatment plan etc. Regards Gloria |

Hi Gloria. Childhood leukemia may be treated very effectively both by acupuncture and/or Ch. herbs. In some instances to a complete cure. Ch. med may be also applied only as an assisting modality to Western medicine, in order to alleviate the symptoms of chemotherapy, radiation etc. Possible aetiologies are usually an aggrevation of common blood, lung, spleen or kidney aetiologies. In order to answer your question properly, I shall need to write a full scale article on this issue, and it is not possible to answer that through a forum board. Still, I suppose you can find articles on this specific issue if you search the libraries of journals such as that of "The Journal of Chinese Medicine" from England and others. If you have a more specific question, I shall be glad to reply. |
