Hello Dr. Halevi I would like to post the following information about a condition that I have had for a number of years, in the hope that you might have some ideas as to what I can do (I'm desperate!!) I think my problems started in Asia where I had bad diarrhoea for extended periods of time. I now have the following symptoms: Occasional bloated stomach/upper intestine after food resulting in foggy head, fatigue and muscular weakness for up to 2 days. Exercise seems to trigger this series of events. Gall bladder not emptying properly. Copious amounts of thick, sticky white phlegm that I just can't clear from my throat, resulting in voice projection problems. Serious fatique after lunch meal resulting in comatose sleep for up 2 hours. All these are doing a pretty good job of messing with my life and my head. I hope you have some insights that may help. Thank you! Peter

Greetings, Peter. Your condition is one that is well documented in Ch.med. and can usually be cured by herbs and/or acupuncture. Many Westerners attract chronic diarrhea while visiting sub-or-tropical countries and in the Far East. It is an accumulation of damp pathogen due to climatic environmental change and it usually manifests in the digestive and respiratory systems. I recommend that you find yourself an experienced T.C.M. practitioner and I am sure you can be helped. |

Thank you Doctor. I appreciate the response you gave. Do you have any contacts in the England (London area) that you would recommend? Regards, Peter |

It is a complex case involving the digestive system and most likely other systems as well. Acupuncture may be able to help here and probably also Ch. herbal med. Such a case calls for a top specialist so try to look for one in you area. I can't, unfortunately, recommend to you a practitioner. |

Hi DR Halevi. I have had this problem for 4 days, into the 5th now....Everytime I eat something I feel nauseated, then I get a rumbling gut and a mad dash to the toilet. My stomach gets sore just under the navel, and sorta in a straight line under the navel. I don't have a headache and no aches and pains, just discomfornt in the gut area.It is slowly settling. I had a very stressful week last week, and that;s when it started.and when my gut aches it's like a dull throb. Thank you for your time. rehards. kris |

Such a condition Kris, is attributed to a local stagnation in the colon in most cases. This stagnation may be of an exogenous origin, such as a stomach-flu (a virus infection affecting the digestive systen), or a food that you have taken that has upset your digestive system and caused a local stagnation of functional activity of the intestine. Sometimes, this may also happen due to emotional stress, anger or suppressed emotions, but, if this was the case, the disorder tends to come gradually and not abruptly. You may need to go easy with your diet for a while, in any case. Drink hot soups and teas and refrain from solid food for a few days, or add just bread toasts and /or rice. Then return to regular food gradually. If the problem persists try to find a Ch.med.practitioner. A practitioner will be able to examine and diagnose your condition quicky and apply the needed therapy. |

Dr. Halevi, This is rare for me to go outside my dr's realm but they can't help me. I started having fainting spells, reasons unknown after hospitilization, but since then, everytime I eat ANYTHING, I get so nauseated and experience GERD. I would rather not eat than have to go through this. My worst episode was last Sunday and I was throwing up, feverish, muscle spasms. After rehydration I was fine except for when I was finally able to eat (toast) and then I almost lost it again. Also, I am one of those people that would practically sew my mouth shut to keep from upchucking but this is all projectile and comes on suddenly and I have no control. This is no way to live.}}} |

Hi Janice. This seems like a challenge for a good Chinese dr, especially if conventional findings are null. Thus, I recommend that you find yourself an acupuncturist with substantial experience and let him/her check you. As a guideline, it is pretty obvious that you have what we call a severe blockage/energy stagnation in your stomach area. This usually gives rise to strong reactions of upward surges of energy which may lead to fainting, vomiting, etc. Yet, this stagnation of energy may be related to the stomach itself, liver functioning, pancreas or other organs. It may, sometimes, even have a pathological changes of real organ tissue in any of these organs, changes that may teke considerable time even for the modern medicine to discern. Try to locate a real good practitioner and have a thorough check by Ch.med specialist. If there is any need for further Western med. examination, he/she will probably guide you to do so. |
