Hi Shmuel, I have a patient with a cervical disc protrusion into the SPINAL CORD !!!(C6,7). Can acupuncture /tuina treat such case ? His symptoms are weekness and pain in the hand. If acupuncture is not efficient in such cases what other alternative does he have before going to surgery, (which he is frightenned from) ? thanks boaz}} |

Is this disk problem a result of an accident (traumatic injury) or a developing disorder? |

No, the initial complaint was of pain in the hand . Pain started 3 months ago, .His mother died at the same time the pain began, so there is probably psycho emotional effect involved... Anyway , there was no accident! Just gradual pain from the hand, and weekness of the hand. BOaz |

In such a case, Boaz, the prognosis is not bad. The principle is the same as with sciatica. Huato points near the involved vertebrae to follow with points along the path of the pain and numbness. Other methods that may work in such a caes are scarring moxibustion (if you have prior experience how to do it) and cupping on the Tai Yang area of the shoulder and nape. If there exist also blood stasis signs, use blood cupping at the most painful spot. Treat daily or every other day and have the needle sensation propagate along the arm to the fingers if you can. If you can use, after needling, the chopstick therapy described in my book, for several minutes, that may be very helpful too. |

If you run a search on this forum, looking for: disk prolapse, lower back pain, protruding disk, spinal stenosis etc. you may find quite a few entries on this subject. As for images, run the same search on GOOGLE and ask for images, you will find plenty of stuff. |
