42 y.o. male nil children.
Keen sportsman, Rugby player.
Previous History:
In 2004 c/o abdo pain and discomfort.
Worse on saturday. After alcohol on friday night.
Rx antacids.
Joint inflammation. Rx antihistamines
Cold sweats at night
Bowel movement every 2 days

Seen by me on: 27/01/07
c/o Acute and severe joint pain plus abdominal pain in the upper L abdominal region.
Diagnosis of carcinoma of the pancreas.
Abdomen extended and very painful.
On examination the following mark was found at Sanyinjiao on the Left side.
/{image}

The foot reflex point to the spleen/pancreas was tender on massage and when massaged made the painful area on the abdomen feel fuller.
Given a moxa stick and told to maoxa, Hegu (Li-4), Zusanli (St-36) and Sanyinjiao (Sp-6) twice daily. This treatment produced a tension in the abdominal area and made him tired and sleepy.
Herbal recommendations were as per Maria Treben's book "God's Pharmacy". Calendula and chamomilla being the main ingredients.
Weekly treatment at my clinic was to balance the pulses using peizo activator.
Chamomila has an intereting strange rare and peculiar symptom. Left foot only sweats, which was present.

Since biopsies were difficult to obtain, the abdomen was opened (22/02/07) and cancer diagnosed, large enough to wrap around the aorta. Chemo therapy commenced.

Results to date is cancer reduced by 2cm total size. Joints are stabilised, energy is improved but still needs to sleep a great deal. Tissues at the moment are particularly fragile.

24/07-07: Placed a subdermal needle in Auricular Pancreatitis point and told to desist from using moxibustion until I collect my senses on this one. Dietary recommendations etc ie inclusion of almonds and molasses.

My treatment goals are
1. To make him as comfortable as possible.
2. Give the best quality of life possible.

Does anyone have any ideas. I am an eclectic and will use any protocol I feel will benefit my patients.

Hi,

Three cheers for Jan.

1. Where's the image?

2. ALOE VERA. Let me explain: I live and work in a small town in rural southern Italy where people are justifiably terrified of going to hospital because the healthcare here is a serious risk to your health. That's why they come for acupuncture, even if acupuncture is way too little for most people most of the time. When it comes to tumours of any kind, the desparate hear turn to ALOE VERA, and they often get good results if they catch it soon enough. It makes tumours go away. I put it as simply as that, because that is simply what seems to happen.

There are various recipes that people follow here, depending on whether they are using the juice directly from the plant, or whether they are buying the juice from a health food shop. There is an awful lot of material on the web specifically on Aloe Vera and tumours, but basically, if you are using commercial juice, you need to take a big spoonful of juice before every meal, ie.: three times a day. For your chap, though, I'd suggest a spoonful at every meal and then a spoonful between every meal and then one before going to bed, making a total of six spoonsful a day, just while things are bad.

3. From a TCM point of view, more information is needed. The main thing behind tumours is some kind of stagnation. We need to know if it is a stagnation of qi, blood, heat or phlegm. We then need to know what the stagnation is sitting on, for example, qi stagnation can create fire that cooks the fluids into a solid mass. However, this qi stagnation is sitting on top of a yin deficiency, which means that there are not enough fluids to 'lubricate' qi flow. That kind of thing, even if my example is a bit wierd. Once you've worked out the kind of tumour, and what it's sitting on, you can start helping the guy out. The pain most probably comes from any excess aspect of the pattern, so you can simply start reducing accordingly. To help the condition (ie.: the tumour) you more than likely need to work on the deficiency.

In other words, keep it simple.

All the best, and God Help!

Simon

I wasn't asked to upload the image as per the tag as I understood the instructions. Suffice to say there is, what looks like a scar, on Sp-6.

Thanks for the tip. It certainly sounds good.

Thank you.

Jan.
