This is a very complicated case Edwin, even for a specialist. As a rule, and maybe despite the common notion in the conventional medical circles, pain management by acupuncture is the most complicated facet of this modality. It is far more complicated than treating heart irregularities, asthma, skin diseases or infections of the throat or bladder for example. Pain management calls for excellent needle handling and technique, beyond the mere art of remembering the acupuncture points or the Chinese medical philosophy and discrimination of pattern disharmonies. Pain associated with cancer or deep rooted irreversible diseases is even harder to deal with. As for your question, distant points such as Hegu/ Liv-3/ B-40 may of course be utilized by the proper manipulation, but local points such as B-23/ 25/ G-30 etc. have a much better effect in this case. Also techniques such as cupping, blood letting, may prove helpful in this case. I would also humbly recommend the technique described in my book: Chopstick Acupuncture as a very effective self-treatment technique for your patient. It takes very little time to learn and apply this modality and it may be done several times a day by the patient himself at the convenience of his home. Bizar as at may seem in first glance, it has remarkable effect for low back pain. Hope this helps. |

So sorry Edwin but I have no more books left. You will either need to order a hard copy from the publisher or an E-book directly from me (+a letter of dedication http://www.acumedico.com/pdf.htm |

Just a Happy note to this case...! It happend a few days ago (after not meeting my patient for weeks)to meet her, unexpectedly somehow by chance on the street, telling me that she's been taking lots of pills lately with little or no use to ease her metastatic pain...As I said, I was unprepared on my way,no room for any treatment, all I had (as usually I carry) were some long lasting needles for the ear acupuncture and desinfectant spray. I thought let's try to fix the needles from the smalest size bilateraly in Hegu p.; today - after 3 days - she came to me with radiating face and very happy, that a wonder occured! from that moment her pain was gone, she regained her sleep, motion and her better quality of life with no pills at all! So she asked me to repeat this wonderful 'treatment' again...what a great feeling for doc & patient! |
