Dear all,

I practice Tai chi daily and i see many benefits to the practice.

However i am not sure if this is the best practice to work and direct Qi in the body.

I think that Qigong is more suitable for this purpose.

Can sombody advice on a simple daily Qi gong routine.

Thanks
Ron

Real T'ai Chi from an established, reputable school is a sophisticated "soft style" martial art that has qigong in it. If you can do it well, you can use your healthy energy to defend yourself, no ifs, ands, or buts.

There are thousands of different kinds of qigong, some are very good for you, some border on quackery or the occult. Your fate determines which teachers will be in your area, and thereby which style you will be able to learn. No one on the internet can give you any more advice than that with the info you've given us. CAVEAT EMPTOR...

Any idea why would somebody say : hey today I will practice Tai Chi or Today I will have some Qi Gong exersices.
What is the difference between the two methods.
Also Is Qi Gong being practiced by the thousands in the parks in China as is done with Tai Chi ? Why Tai Chi seems more popular and Qi Gong more secretive ?
I still cane imagine a very healthy taoist monk climbing to the mountains each morning and having a morning Qi Gong routine of about 20 to 30 minuts and would like to know it

Part of this, is in A.A.'s reply to you. Some more on this topic you can find if you run a search command for Qi Gong/ Chi Gong/ etc. on this forum.
Tai Chi is definitely Qi Gong at its best. It commands and disciplines the Qi of the body and establishes the bond between the spirit and physique. There are, in some styles of Tai Chi, certain Qi Gong exercises called Nei Gong (internal drills). These Nei Gong exercises are sometimes held in secrecy and taught only to devoted students of that specific styles. Even within these exercises there are some which are even more secret than the others. Still, if you practice Tai Qi diligently and rigorously, you will have enough Qi Gong in it to feed your appetite...

So... which is better for your health after all?
Can one benefit solely from qigong without practicing taichi?

Both are very good for your health, as long as you practice diligently and persevere. Which one is best for you ? Well, this depends on your personality and needs. You may regard Tai Chi as a higher level of Qi Gong, more sophisticated, more complex and one that needs more time to practice and master. It definitely encompasses most aspects of Qi Gong, yet, offers other features which Qi Gong does not include. Also Qi Gong, in its higher levels, may bring you very far, at shores that you can not imagine. In any event, the key is: just practice. Do Tai Chi, Qi Gong or whatever. One will eventually leads to the other, or will open some other options which you can not foresee.
