I have been seeing a wonderful acupuncturist for quite some time with great results until recently. After a medical procedure I developed ascites/edema which included the abdomen, breasts and eyes. After improving it considerably and maintaing it for months acupuncture with, I had a treatment for right sided arm and shoulder pain and a large feeling in the right leg. The pain was heavy, arm could not be lifted and generally was useless due to the pain in shoulder and upper arm. All of the exact points that were used are unknown as the notes are not complete and include points not needled, however they were all on the right side, front and back and included several SI on upper back only, several LI only on the arm with one almost midpoint on forearm, several ST on lower leg only (including ST 37, 40, 41), with TH4, LV14, LV4, SP6 and possibly LU9/8/7 or LI 5... and LI3/4... no other areas on L side, back, abdomen, upper legs, feet, fingers, etc were needled. I awoke the next morning at 630 am after an incredibly refreshing and peaceful sleep -which had not happened in several months due to heat induced insomnia-soon after there was a normal feeling of needing to move the bowels-also unusual due to much dampness preventing regular movements. Upon moving bowels, copious amounts of fluid were comfortably and very rapidly expelled and the edema which was in abdomen, breasts and eyes was completely gone from right eye, right breast, and the abdominal distention was almost completely gone. After about a week all edema returned and the top right eyelid twitched as it reached the eye. Since then the acupuncturist has decided that the issue is due to the spleen and has been focusing on SP, UB, KD, GB/ LV. Unfortunately this is not only not working but causing a very sad loss of trust and much physical and mental distress due to excess SP/LV/GB and now incontinent issues. It is apparent that the pain that originated the wildly successful and un repeatable treatment was/is caused by the SP/GB/LV needling and the UB? points on lower back near sacrum have caused fecal incontinence. Acupressure is somewhat helpful and I am using LV 2,3, 13 GB 34,41,13, 20, CV 9,11,PC6 and some Lower leg ST to try and give some relief until it can be figured out what to do. I am looking for suggestions as to point locations on LI / ST / and possibly SI and/or LU that could explain the comfortable and rapid expulsion of fluid from the intestine, and for a point selection to remedy this lower back UB? induced incontinence. Thank you

Please let me know in clear words what points prescription would you like to have for what symptoms? Are you male, female, what age... etc. Thank you. |

Thank you for the reply Dr. Halevi. I am female and 42. I am holding excess fluid in the face, eyes, breasts, abdomen(ascites) and intestines. It is the result of a contrast medium injection. It is causing constant abdominal distention, dull abdominal aching, sticky and infrequent stools that are difficult to pass and clean after, inability to eat due to a constant full sensation in the entire abdomen, swollen and draining eyes and swollen hot breasts. I am looking for points that will drain this fluid through the intestines, not the bladder.

Here is a prescription for your symptoms. Be advised though, that personal modifications must be applied in order to make this formula work for you. This can be done only by a practitioner that will run an adequate diagnosis on you, including pulse and tongue. Sp-6/ Sp-9/ Sp-3/ Ren-9 Ren-12/ St-25/ St-36/ St-44 B-22/ B-25/

Thank you for your prescription Dr. Halevi. This very similar if not identical on occasion to what was and is being done now to no avail. My acupuncturist is frustrated by this also. Spleen, bladder, and stomach points on the abdomen exasperate the problems and fix the fluid in the abdomen causing epigastric distress and recurring arm pain. It was a one off treatment to alleviate arm and shoulder pain and heaviness that miraculously solved the problem for a week. Apologies that my first post didnt express that well. I noticed on your points page that St-25/ St-36/ St-37/ St-39 = purges the intestines. I believe the similar combination without ST 25 and with the addition of Large Intestine points (and possibly a couple other assisting points on the wrist) purged this excessive damp. I have seen LI 4, 6, 11, 13, 14 and SI 5, LU 7,8,9 mentioned by various sources for clearing damp or assisting in draining damp down, but I can not find supporting documentation for what clearly had this miraculous effect on me. It may sound strange but I believe the large intestine points freed and moved the energy up, connected it with the SI and the ST points on the lower leg drew everything down and drained it. There seems to be some support -to me anyway- when looking at divergent channels and meridian flow, but no support in literature that i can find for specific point combinations for this. (and based on my experience, there should be ! ) I do see a qualified acupuncturist but am trying to assist in finding out exactly what was done so help end both our frustration. Do know of any points that can be used for clearing or draining excess damp on the large intestine meridian and possibly on the wrist-even if not in a prescription form? Apologies for the long winded response and thank you again for your input. |

The prescription I gave you is exactly for that. The points combination which you mention (St-25/ St-36/ St-37/ St-39) is used to treat mainly pathogens such as dysentery marked by acute diarrhea with intestinal inflammation. The fact that your practitioner used the same points that I recommended, does not mean that you received the same treatment that I meant. Needling manipulation and techniques can vary to the point that the same points give a totally different result. However, this can not be delineated properly only by correspondence. The other points that you have mentioned on the arm etc., have no significant influence on the core issue and may only be used as secondary points according to specific/personal diagnosis. |
