I had an intersting encounter on one of my Clinical Obs days, this week (I am 1st yr student). A young man presented himself as "slightly" (?) haemophilliac. He was naturally refused treatment until his GP could be contacted to discuss whether he would be able to undergo needling and referred to the herbs clinic in the meantime. I have since failed to find any refernce to Haemophillia in my textbooks, my best guess being that it would be explained in TCM as Heart and Spleen Xu not controlling/containing blood in the blood vessels. Any explanations/text references would be much appreciated. |

In general you are right Kevin, despite the fact that in Western m. it is attributed to liver malfunctioning rather than spleen. Yet, in most cases, you can still find splenomegaly. In any event, this doesn't pose any threats by acupuncture. I have treated in the past numerous cases of even very severe cases of thrombocytopenia and there is no actual danger of constant bleeding. |
