Dear Dr. Halevi,

I am a layman say laywoman who is very interested in TCM. I am myself am practicing TCM for about 5 years now. On first hand I had a brochure edition with pictures for the laymen edited by PhD (Columbia Pacific University, year 1954) Franz Wagner from Linz/Austria. This book is very good for basic introduction. It doesn't describe meridians just nominates the symptoms and gives 3 - 6 points to acupressure.

With my dog I had been from 01/04 to 05/05 at an acupuncture veterinary surgeon, Dr. Bayer, and it helped him the last year very much, especially increase his quality of life immensely. I always asked his doctor what he was acupuncturing and learned much during my dog's treatments. I had a book for acupressure for the dog, too. In his book the meridians were given and for what symptoms they are. There and also with his doctor I learnt s.th. about the meridians.

5 months ago or so I had several symptoms alltogether like to be on the verge of lumbago, hemorrhoids, lumbar pain, pain in the back waist, pain in the upper arm and shoulder, toothache, mania, constant fear, femur joints pain, belching, nausea (some of them like lumbago had been lingering already for a week but I was too lazy to look it up). That evening I thought now it's enough! I have to look it up now or want I really get sick? I searched my book, but there it wasn't in, at least not all symptoms. So I searched the internet for meridians and came across your page. Instinctively and which points I remembered the veterinary surgeon had acupunctured to my dog (as with me the same meridians have been in disorder as with my dog; I always suspected that my dog took my disorders from me so that I didn't get the symptoms and diseases) I picked the points. Within 3 minutes I was alltogether o.k. again. If in the book of Dr. Wagner the acupressure time given is i.e. 2 minutes I always need only one. In the instant I'm putting the finger or thumb on the point, I feel release. I have been working with energy (just for myself) for years already before beginning with acupressure.

Since I have been working with your pages now for about 6 months (since my dog has died) I just can tell you it's great. I'm looking up the symptoms, pick the points instinctively and acupressure them. It always functions. Yesterday I could feel after only 1 or 2 minutes after having acupressured 2 - 3 points how Chi was working backwards. Pain was appearing at this and that point and you really could read the ko-circle backwards. Sometimes over mother-circle and sometimes over direct connection. It was the first time I really could "watch", say feel the chi backtracking to the original meridian in disorder.

Now my question: I observed first in my dog already years ago and now for about 6 months in me (it really seems he took everything off me) that the symptoms coming up are to 98 % evident in the right side. The pain always displays in the right side. When I am acupressuring points which before have not been hurting i. e. B 67, when I put the finger on it it really hurts on the right side but not on the left. After one minute it didn't hurt anymore. The next day when I acupressured again it already didn't hurt on the right side either on putting the finger on.
I observed that everytime an acupressure point is hurting on acupressuring it's really time to acupressure it.

As I already mentioned it was the same with my dog. I early observed that 98 % of the symptoms, ulcers and everything else were on the right side. I told that his surgeon Dr. Schwarz (only western medicine) but he said it has nothing to say which I didn't believe. At that time I didn't know the TCM veterinary surgeon, Dr. Bayer, only years later; but him I didn't ask.

If symptoms are always coming up on the right side and the left side of the brain is steering the opposite side of the body, what does that mean? I am thinking too much or so? My emotional set is okay but the analytical not? What does it express?

2. question: you write that the stomach meridian is controlling the blood (nosebleed). Could it also produce easy bleeding of the gums i.e. when you treat the teeth with water pick? I had difficulties with stomach meridian but other symptoms - not bleeding of the gums. Or goes it with colon (toothache) controlling the body liquids? It's not bad, it immediately stops as it began (only after teeth have been treated with water pik). The mental factors of both meridians are fitting with me.

Since I am acupressuring myself (for 5 years now) I never had again any cold, bronchitis, lumbago (which I suffered only once because I didn't recognize the initial symptoms when still was time to escape it; I acupressured it away over night; at first I was unable to bend down to reach master point of dolor so I acupressured it with the toes. In the following, when I ever have been on the verge to lumbago again I escaped in in acupressuring. When I think that others go to the doctor because of lumbar + femur joints pain, heart pain, lumbago............ I only can state I thank the Chinese for their intelligence.

And western medicine even today doesn't know anything of

"everything comes from mind and shows in body symptoms". Your body is the expression of your soul - in general (lookings, stature) as well as in special = symptoms".

When I observe symptoms my first question is: what is not right in my mental balance? Which difficulties and worries do I have? Why did I get this? A western doctor wouldn't even know what you are talking of.

Do you have any answer to especially my 1. question? I would appreciate it very much.

In the meantime I want to thank you honestly for your page. It enhanced my knowledge regarding TCM immensely. It's really great.

Yours Sincerely,

Jane Fisher

Hi Jane,
Thank you for your long letter + kind remarks. As for your question regarding the left/right body symptoms, there is already a post (maybe more) on this forum which answers your query. The link is here:

The meridian controlling the blood is actually the spleen and not the stomach. Various bleeding disorders, including the nose or gumas, may arise due to a weak spleen or Yang Qi. The stomach is related to the spleen as its Yin/Yang counterpart and its meridian is in continuum with the large-intestine meridian which holds a majot part in both the nose and gums health.
By the way Jane, you have all these explanations and an excellent self treatment program in my book: chopsticks acupuncture. You can read about the book on my homepage.
